Elon Musk pays $44 billion for Twitter.
Directors of the Twitter board have declared the news that Elon Musk, the Owner of Tesla and the world no 1 richest person, has also become the CEO of Twitter after buying it for 44 billion dollars. The news of Elon Musk paying $44 billion for Twitter came to screens on Monday 25 April 2022 and it made an outburst on social media, especially on Twitter.
Now Elon is making some changes to Twitter that he thinks would be beneficial for the users. First of all, some of the content rules and regulations have been made flexible enough to support the right to free speech. There are some restrictions on Twitter that remove the offensive and abusive tweets and comments from the timeline. Elon says that for giving the proper freedom of speech to Twitter users, such comments won't be removed. They will stay on the timeline until the tweeters remove it themselves. instead of being offensive, they will be lawful. In an interview at a conference of TED, he stated that "If it's a gray area, let the tweet exist."
He also made a statement in his tweet on Twitter which says that “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,”
Musk also provides an ever-demanding feature "edit button" which will allow users to edit their tweets whenever they would like. Tweeters will be able to change the viewpoints they share in their tweets. This has been a major discussion point among major users of Twitter.
However, this also raises the debate that this feature of the edit button can be used in the wrong ways. Wrong-minded people after behaving offensively or as a harasser can turn their ways as if they never did that. Although some have suggested that if they arrange some preventions like the options that will show that the tweet has been edited or also the history like what the changes have been made to it. In this way, the edit button can be a safe thing.
Musk also has a plan to defeat spambots and will authenticate the humans on the platform. In this regard, he stated that "we have plans making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spambots, and authenticating all humans".
